WASHINGTON – A panel appointed by the Montgomery County Council is recommending a big pay raise for members of the legislative body.
The Washington Post reports the seven-member committee wants to boost council salaries to $125,000 for those who take office after elections next year. The panel also recommends annual increases that mean council members would earn a projected salary of about $136,000 by 2017.
Council members are slated to make roughly $106,000 by the end of this year. The Post reports most members of the D.C. Council currently earn $128,340, while council members in Prince George’s and Fairfax counties earn $102,486 and $75,000, respectively.
The Post says the citizens committee is chosen by the council to study compensation issues for elected officials. Members also recommended a boost in pay for the next county executive from $184,360 to $190,000.
The council will take a look at the panel’s report on Tuesday.
